The Bay Horse Bed & Breakfast
The Bay Horse is situated in the Lake Districts only coastal village, Ravenglass. It is a listed 18th Century former Coaching Inn which was once used by passing travellers waiting for the tide to recede before continuing on their journey over the river Esk ford. This is a B&B with history, lovingly restored and taken into the 21st century with modern facilities.
Our home has been lovingly and tastefully renovated which we enjoy sharing with our guests. We combined the retention of original features, including oak lintels, doors, panelling, oak beams and fireplaces, with modern facilities.
If you like old properties you will love our home.
The Bay Horse and the village of Ravenglass was once the haunt of smugglers and rumours say that there is an underground tunnel connecting our home to the Ship Inn (another former Inn across the road). This would have been used by the smugglers to move contraband from Inn to Inn so hiding from the customs men.
We have a guest lounge with use of maps, local information, books and a TV with DVD.
We offer secure storage for cycles, packed lunches on requests and drying facilities.
We are ideal for tourists, business and regular visitors to the area.
A very welcoming place with the hosts being extremely friendly.
The double bedroom with en suite was very clean and tidy with a bowl of fresh fruit and lots of different drinks available in the room. The fruit is a first for us in any of the dozens of b and b's we have ever stayed in. The breakfast choices cannot be faulted and the home made jams marmalades and yogurts are the tops.
Definitely a lovely quite place to stay right at the end of the harbour road with secure parking as well. thanks
