The Bay Horse Bed & Breakfast
The Bay Horse is situated in the Lake Districts only coastal village, Ravenglass. It is a listed 18th Century former Coaching Inn which was once used by passing travellers waiting for the tide to recede before continuing on their journey over the river Esk ford. This is a B&B with history, lovingly restored and taken into the 21st century with modern facilities.
Our home has been lovingly and tastefully renovated which we enjoy sharing with our guests. We combined the retention of original features, including oak lintels, doors, panelling, oak beams and fireplaces, with modern facilities.
If you like old properties you will love our home.
The Bay Horse and the village of Ravenglass was once the haunt of smugglers and rumours say that there is an underground tunnel connecting our home to the Ship Inn (another former Inn across the road). This would have been used by the smugglers to move contraband from Inn to Inn so hiding from the customs men.
We have a guest lounge with use of maps, local information, books and a TV with DVD.
We offer secure storage for cycles, packed lunches on requests and drying facilities.
We are ideal for tourists, business and regular visitors to the area.
I stayed for one night in this beautifully restored old fishermans inn as I was about to start the Hadrians Way C2C. My bike was safely locked away and Elaine and Mike were able to allow me to my room earliar than expected. Lovely touches in the room like bedding , pillows, fresh fruit, bottled water, a good range of teas and coffees and I had my own private bathroom !
